The Colorado Trail is an established, strong, and most of the path open non-motorized walkers, riders and cyclists. Mountain bikers are prohibited on sections crossing designated wilderness areas. Trail elevations ranging from a minimum of about 5500 feet (1700 m) at the end of the Denver track and up to 13,271 feet (4045 m) on the slopes of Coney in the San Juan Mountains. The trail goes up and down drastically. A hiker crosses the entire length of the track to win (and lose) about 89 000 vertical feet. The road goes through what is considered among the most beautiful state in the country. Wildlife and wildflowers are abundant abundant season. Although much of the route runs through forest, largely achieved above the Timberline where trees are unable to grow and the views are breathtaking.
The trail passes through historic mining towns along the ancient roads of India, and through a modern ski resort of world class. Other sections appear anything that would have 500 years ago.
