Trier Travel Guide

The oldest City in Germany was discovered as Augusta Treverorum in 16 BC and has carefully preserved its Roman past which can be seen in the archaeological and architectural attractions Many of which are declared as UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the birthplace of Karl Marx. There is a hint of French as well in the way this City dines and wines!

Temperature in Trier around this time is a bit cooler and the tourist rush is done away with therefore leaving the City for you to enjoy and explore. Also the prices across the accommodations and the attractions are slashed.
Summer is the peak season and sees a large number of tourists visiting the City and make the most of warm and pleasant weather outdoor activities can be enjoyed to its fullest. Winter is not the best of time other than skiing and snowboarding there is nothing much to do!

  • Porta Nigra: The only one of the four gates remaining and it has managed to stay because of the fact that it was later turned into a Church. Climb up the building to get magnificent views of the Germany’s oldest City. You may also explore City Museum nearby.

  • Brot und Spiele: German for Bread and Games is the biggest annual Roman festival in Germany held at Roman monuments in the City Amphitheatre and Imperial Baths. Theatre performances are held at Amphitheatre and Imperial Bath plays host to showcase the military and civil life!
  • Trier Christmas Market: A street festival held annually at the Hauptmarkt and at Domfreihof located near Cathedral of Trier.
